Ring 50 Past Presidents to Perform

The January 3rd meeting will showcase variety of talents by the Past Presidents of Ring 50.  This evening will be packed with effects ranging from the sublime to the miraculous. Children’s Holiday Show December 6



On Wednesday, December 6th there will be a "Children's Holiday Magic Show" sponsored by I.B.M. Ring 50 featuring three of Washington's finest children's magicians: Noland the Magician (Noland Montgomery), Captain Token the Magician (Louis Hofheimer) and Louis the Magician (Louis Meyer).
Danny Selnick is the chairman for this fun event and he expects 100 children or more and their parents.
You saw how successful it has been the last few years for the children and the community!
Admittance is FREE -- with donation of toy (preferred) or can of food for the Alexandria Citadel, Salvation Army. The Holiday show starts at 7:00 PM and will be about 1 hour in duration. The show will be held at the Holiday Inn-Carlyle, 2460 Eisenhower Ave, Alexandria, VA in the large room behind the restaurant. We are requesting you register so we can plan seating for everyone. Wednesday November 1st “New Members Perform” Night


  November 1st is New Performer’s Night. It's is not a contest – there is no judging, no trophies.  It is merely a time to welcome and appreciate the talents of our newest members. If you are a new member and would like to perform for the Ring 50 members, now is your chance. Contact Larry Lipman at lipman.larry@gmail.com or 703-859-8526 to get on the agenda. Come and enjoy the fun at Holiday Inn Alexandria – Carlyle, 2460 Eisenhower Ave, Alexandria, VA. Meeting starts at 7:30 PM.

Silent Auction
   Don’t forget to search your magic closet for seldom-used magic that may be someone else’s treasure and bring to the Silent Auction held before each meeting between 7 and 7:30. As always, 10 percent of the sale price (rounded off to the next full dollar) goes to the Ring. Each person having items to be auctioned in the Silent Auction, must complete an IBM Ring 50 Silent Auction Bid Sheet for each item describing the items and any reserve bid if necessary. Each seller should provide a full and accurate representation of the item, such as missing instructions, repairs, wear and tear, etc. Otherwise it shall be assumed that all items are complete and in working order and includes instructions.

Dan Fleshman Lecture Highlights October 4 Meeting

 

     Dan Fleshman, a longtime pro who specializes in restaurant magic, has lectured and performed all over the country and much of the world.  He will give a lecture to Ring 50 at the October 4 meeting. Free for Ring 50 members; $20 for guests and visitors. According to his website Dan has lectured in every state except Maine and Alaska. He has lectured and performed in Europe, Japan and Canada. Dan has also performed and lectured numerous times at the world famous Magic Castle and has been featured on the cover of Genii Magazine. Dan has lecture notes, DVD’s and many effects showcasing his magic.

      Dan's lecture means a slight rearrangement in our meeting schedule. We'll have the New Members Performance Night in November.

TEACH-IN FEATURES MAGIC YOU CAN USE

    Get a crash course in easy-to-perform tricks using cards, coins,
rope and ring tricks, and mentalism at the Wednesday, Sept. 4 meeting.
 
The popular Ring 50 Teach-In will be conducted by members Sam Brothers,
Mike Peckham, John Roberts and Augie Arnstein.
 
The instructors will provide written instructions covering their tricks
and sleights.
 
To get more out of the evening, members should bring their own deck of
cards, Three large--half or old dollar--coins (and a matching shell if
you have one), a few feet of rope or string, a large ring (a few inches
in diameter if possible) and paper and pen/pencil.
The instructors may provide some props, but probably not enough for 
everyone.
 
All members will see all four instructors.

Ring 50 Summer Events



Ring 50 does not meet in July to allow the members to attend the conventions and vacations during the month.  Hope to see many of you at the combined IBM/SAM convention in Louisville Kentucky, July 12 -15.

Change in Venue
    Ring 50 is changing its’ meeting venue beginning with the August 2nd  meeting from the present location to the Holiday Inn Alexandria – Carlyle, 2460 Eisenhower Ave, Alexandria, VA. Meeting starts at 7:30 PM. Unlike the former place, the Holiday Inn has a restaurant/bar and is more accessible to the Metro.

Lecture Slated for August 2 Meeting
Ring 50 meets August 2nd  with a lecture by Rich Marotta, the Comedian Who Does Magic.  Rich has appeared on numerous Television shows as a great magician well established in the magic world. He has lectured on magic to his fellow magicians in in all fifty states and over 20 countries. You can find his comedy and magic effects for sale in every magic shop in the country.  
The lecture is free to Ring 50 paid-up members. All other magicians may attend the lecture for a $20 fee.
